Percolation Device Wazau-PD

Brief Description

The device for determining the ion composition of soil solution under saturated conditions was designed to let a defined amount of solution simultaneously percolate through undisturbed soil specimens in specimen cylinders (volume 100 cm?) at constant velocity. The feed rate for a test can be varied from (0.1–9) mm/min. The percolation rate can be adjusted according to the specific hydraulic conditions of the location.

Setup

Put the instrument on a secure place. The instrument’s back side should have distance of 10 cm to a wall to allow air circulation. Connect the leads of drive and stop switch to the control device. The sockets are located on the rear side of the control device. Connect the pressure sensor for the water tension to the control device. The corresponding socket is located on the front side of the control device. The plugs cannot be changed. When plugging the plug into the socket make sure it is inserted straight without the pins being bended. Connect the electricity cable from the corresponding socket on the control device to the power socket-outlet. The control device can be turnt on and off by means of the power switch.

Operation

The control device can be turnt on and off by means of the power switch. The piston can be quickly moved by means of the buttons UP and DOWN. The feed rate in lift mode is 40 times higher than the maximum feed rate on a test run. Make sure the acrylic glass cylinder won’t be damaged in lift mode. That might occur due to wrong mounting or if the piston sits not centrical inside the cylinder. Take in mind that the each glass cylinder has its assigned spot on the device that should not be changed. For that reason the each spot is labeled. The feed rate of the piston can be adjusted by means of the potentiometer. The desired value is shown on the display. The feed rate is enabled by means of the button START. It can be stopped by the button STOP. The feed rate stops when the stop switch is reached. By means of the the button RETURN the piston can be moved back in the initial position once the feed rate has stopped. The LED ACTIVE indicates the state of activation or if the drive is enabled respectively.

Electrical Connections

The power connection is done by means of a built-in plug and the corresponding electricity cable.
